Newsletter
November, 2009
The focus of our newsletter this month is a topic that – quite frankly – scared me when we decided to get involved. I’m talking about social networking (Facebook, Twitter and Blogging). If you told me just a few months ago that I would actually enjoy writing “tweets” and creating entries for “Dr. Clark’s Tip of the Day” on Facebook each and every day, I would have told you that you were absolutely crazy! Yet now, I can’t imagine a day without them for me and the community we serve. I believe social networking is a great way to communicate with our patients and anyone in the world that is struggling with weight loss. It is a free resource to everyone who has access to the internet and we have found it to be a valuable resource for people and a terrific addition to our support system as patients tackle their weight loss problems and progress through their personal weight loss journey. In this newsletter we will explore what Twitter, Blogging and Facebook are all about, how to participate and hopefully inspire you to take advantage of this professional advice/interaction available to you each and every day for free!
Don’t be afraid. It is easier than you think. Check out “Dr. Clark’s Connection” at www.CenterForMetabolicHealth.com. You now have current weight loss information available to you at all times so visit our site every day for up-to-date information as described throughout this issue of our newsletter. “Dr. Clark’s Connection” has a link to our monthly newsletters, weekly podcasts, Dr. Clark’s Tip of the Day on Facebook, and daily “tweets” from me on Twitter at http://twitter.com/docweightloss In addition, you can enhance your weight loss with our articles/expert advice on our blog at www.cmhva.com/blog and support Dani as she blogs through her weight loss of 45 pounds in 6 months.
Be inspired…Be prepared…Be committed…Be successful…Be connected…

Expert Advice from CMH

Why blog? I asked myself that question when I first heard that four letter word. I’m from a generation that wasn’t raised with such advanced technology and so I found myself moving into the technologically advanced future with a little trepidation. And then I realized that blogging was a great way to introduce myself to the technological world of the web. Blogging is a conversation that is useful and fun. It also helps us build a relationship with the people we serve.
On our CMH website, blogging offers us an opportunity to share the latest research regarding weight loss and fitness, provide tips and insights and receive feedback. It is an easy way for you to find information and, as one person put it – provide “a kind of university light” for helpful hints and education in their sometimes cloudy weight loss journey. Our blog is informal and a place where you can make comments, ask questions and have a helpful conversation with the CMH experts and others who are experiencing similar frustrations, barriers and successes!
We also just added Dani to our blog. For those of you who don’t know Dani, she is a wonderful person who has struggled with her weight for a long time. She is smart and hard working. She has lost weight in the past but has gained it back. She is committed to “learning” how to identify her barriers, develop strategies to overcome them and live a healthier life for the rest of her life. She is committed to losing 45 pounds in 6 months through the CMH program and our exclusive
Penny Burns, RN, BSN –
As many times as I have moved, I have gathered friends all around the world. Keeping up with them has been a challenge, resulting in that Christmas card with a years worth of news edited down to one page. The use of the Internet and e-mail helped in some ways but the introduction of Facebook has streamlined everything.
Facebook is an Internet tool that connects you to the friends and family you want to keep in touch with. You set up your personal site by including (and excluding) the information you want to share about yourself. This may go all the way back to your High School and College if you choose. Those friends you know who may already be on Facebook may then contact you. You may select them as your “friend” or not. This now provides you the opportunity to let all your “friends” know how or what you are doing all at once. Your friends can all respond and see each others responses as well. You can also “hit” their Facebook site and do the same. It’s a great way to share pictures as well.
If you do not have a Facebook account, you can still see Dr. Clark’s Tip of the Day at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Center-for-Metabolic-Health-PLC/128058772979 If you do have a Facebook account, you can log into Facebook from this same page and then become a fan of CMH and even suggest it to others so they can enjoy daily weight loss and health tips as well from Dr. Clark. Enjoy!

Twitter is a social networking site that allows you to keep up with your friends and hear the latest news of what’s going on and “what they are doing right now”. You can sign up for a free account through Dr. Clark’s twitter page at www.twitter.com/docweightloss. This allows you to send or receive short (140 characters or less) “tweet” messages on your phone or on your computer. You can hear the latest thoughts on current events or just the everyday scoop on what people you know are doing.
You can also use it to enhance your weight loss. You can find friends trying to stick to their diet and exercise goals, share tips and tricks to motivate yourself and each other. Check out Dr. Clark’s twitter page, sign up to get his tweets on your computer or phone and receive updates about how he fits the CMH healthy way of living into his busy schedule along with general tips for successfully losing weight and keeping it off. At times, you may also hear about exclusive discounts offered to those who get his “tweets”.
